Voter checklist

Be ready for every election

Four quick steps, each linked to an official or long-standing nonpartisan source. Rules and dates differ by state, so always confirm with your state.

Step 1

Check that you're registered

Registrations can be removed after a move or years without voting. It takes a minute to check.

Step 2

California deadlines

Registration, mail-ballot request and early-voting deadlines are set by each state. We don't copy dates here because they change every cycle; these official pages always have the current ones.

Next U.S. general election: Tuesday, November 7, 2028. Set by federal law (2 U.S.C. § 7). Primary and special election dates vary by state.

Step 3

Know what's on your ballot

Ballot measures (propositions) let you vote directly on laws. Read neutral summaries with arguments for and against, then the official voter guide.

Step 4

Set a reminder

Add the next federal election day to your phone's calendar. Registration deadlines differ by state, so check yours in step 2.
