Data sources
Community Reports are voluntary selections entered by participating voters. They are a self-selected survey, never an official count.
Official Results come from election offices themselves. California numbers load from the California Secretary of State; North Carolina numbers load from the North Carolina State Board of Elections. Every row keeps its office name and last-updated time.
For 23 additional states, the vote counts published by that state's own election office are delivered to us through The People's Tally open data feed (licensed CC BY 4.0), which passes through official state election office figures. Those rows are labeled with the office name and the feed, and are marked as awaiting certification.
News Race Calls are posted by our own approved contributors. Each one names the outlet that made the call and links to it. They are unofficial and are never presented as certified results.
Every state and D.C. is also linked straight to its own official election results page so you can always check the primary source.
We do not fabricate, simulate, or backfill numbers. If a race has no data yet, the app says so.
